Centre for Sustainability Leadership  2013 Fellowship

In 2013, I participated in a 9-month leadership development experience through the Centre for Sustainability Leadership. To say it was transformative is probably an understatement. Through an intense series of weekly workshops, coaching and mentoring, and number of retreats, I emerged with newly found confidence and courage to do things differently. I'm still on that path, and for anyone with an inkling that perhaps they might be someone to lead the world to a different future, I encourage you to check out the Centre for Sustainability Leadership (CSL) to find a tribe of changemakers making shift happen.

Here are some questions I was asked for a CSL interview in 2014:

Why are you passionate about sustainability? What was the moment or event that made you decide to become a ‘change maker’ in your field?

I believe sustainability is much more than just about the environment; it’s an issue concerning human behaviour and the way we seek purpose and meaning in our lives. I’ve looked for years to be inspired by leaders who are courageous in their stand for a different way of living, but realised that those who really care need to be the ones who step up as the new breed of leadership we so desperately need. As someone who recognises this, it is also my responsibility to help support and embody this a new leadership paradigm, enabling humanity to truly realise it’s potential.

How did CSL play a role in directing your current path or project?

The CSL Fellowship program helped me to shift from “reluctant leader” to an empowered individual who is prepared to step up and drive action. It has opened my mind to new ways of thinking, through learning from leaders in sustainability, coaching, retreats, and the support from other CSL fellows. Through the fellowship, I’ve been able to build my professional brand in a way that reflects the leader I feel the world needs, and has opened up a range of new exciting opportunities for me.
In 25 words or less, tell us why leadership for sustainability is important.
I believe that to build a sustainable future, we need leaders who inspire and empower us, encourage innovation, and hold a higher vision for humanity.

What do you plan to do next on your sustainability journey?

I’m currently [previously] working at NAB as Host of The Village, which is re-imagining the relationship between customers, community and business with financial institutions. These types of spaces have the potential to accelerate new and more sustainable business models, such as social entrepreneurship. My vision with The Village is for a national network of communities that foster connectedness, innovation and conscious business. I’ve also been part of developing a network of corporate, non-profit and government intrapreneurs who are passionate about the role large organisations can play in drive positive social impact. What’s next beyond that is unknown but exciting to discover along the way.
What are three words you would use to describe the Fellowship Program?
Transformation, vision, courage.
